Dr Smith has an interest in the assessment and management of addictive disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, eating disorders (particulary binge eating), psychosis and ADHD.
He has a special interest and experience in motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for addictive disorders including alcohol, cannabis, amphetamines, opiods and smoking. He is also experienced in the prescription of medications such as Naltrexone (Revia), Acamprosate (Campral), Disulfiram (Antabuse) and Baclofen as an addition to counselling for alcohol dependence.
He has published extensively in the areas of schizophrenia and dual dignosis of psychosis and substance use.
Dr Smith also works as a Visiting Medical Officer at the Northside Clinic at Greenwich and Northside West Clinic at Wentworthville in the Drug and Alcohol Programme.
