Brigitte Lane is a Psychologist who provides treatment to adults of all ages. She has a special interest in assessing and providing treatment for eating disorders, depression and related mood disorders, anxiety disorders, sleep difficulties, general life stresses, and difficulty coping with overwhelming emotions. She has training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a talking therapy that focuses on incorporating new thinking and behavioural approaches into everyday life. Brigitte also has experience with skills training exercises from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), values-based approaches from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Brigitte is registered to practice as a Psychologist with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board, and is an associate member of the Australian Psychological Society. Over the past three years, Brigitte has worked in both hospital and community mental health settings. She has delivered individual and group treatments for disordered eating, emotions, and anxiety disorders to adults, as well as parenting strategies, emotion coaching, weight-based interventions, and management of anxiety and depression to children, adolescents, and parents. Brigitte has also attended additional workshops for treating obsessive compulsive disorder and eating disorders, and has provided a mental health prevention program to young adolescents as part of a school program. The settings which Brigitte has worked in span the breadth of Sydney, and include Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (Missenden Psychiatric unit), Liverpool Health Service (Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit), Westmead Children’s Hospital (Child and Adolescent Weight Management Service), and Hurstville Community Health Centre (Child, Youth and Family Team).
Brigitte is currently in the final stages of completing her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology and Master of Science at The University of Sydney. She completed her undergraduate training at the University of New South Wales and Swinburne University of Technology, in Melbourne. She returned to Sydney in 2005, where she embarked on a Master of Science degree in Neuroscience at the University of Sydney, which coincided with her work with individuals and families in a Brain Injury Unit, at Liverpool Health Service. She is researching disordered eating in young adults, where overeating may be triggered by the experience of negative emotions, rather than actual physical hunger.
