Liz Cooper is a clinical psychologist . She is a member of the Australian Association of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science. She has completed her doctoral thesis on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Depression.
Liz has also undertaken research projects into the fragmented nature of traumatic memories and infant sleep disturbance and Postnatal Depression. She has co-authored a journal article "Treating Infant Sleep Disturbance: Does Maternal Mood Impact on Effectivness?".
Liz has worked in a range of clinical settings including the Mood Disorders Unit at Northside Clinic (a private psychiatric hospital), community drug and alcohol, Bankstown Anxiety Clinic and in private practice. Liz has also undertaken advanced training in the treatment of Personality Disorders as part of her doctoral training.
Liz is trained and experienced in using a range of therapy techniques including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Itnerpersonal Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy and Time-limited Psychotherapy.
Liz's main areas of clinical interest/expertises include adults and older adolescents experiencing:
- Mood Disorders - Depression, Postnatal Depression and Bipolar Disorder
- Anxiety Disorders - Generalised Anxiety (worry), Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Stress
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, including Complex/Chronic PTSD
- Drug, Alcohol and Gambling problems
- Grief and Loss
