Abdul is a Clinical Psychologist who works with adolescents and adults. Abdul’s experience is broad, spanning common problems such as depression and anxiety, to less common problems and disorders, including schizophrenia and bipolar. He has worked at various Sydney public hospitals as well as at a leading specialist anxiety disorders clinic in the public sector.

Abdul completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in psychology at the University of New South Wales. Abdul’s areas of expertise and interest include depression, all of the anxiety disorders (including trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder and generalised anxiety), self-esteem issues, addictive behaviours and working with couples to improve relationships. He also works with students of varying ages to improve academic success and reduce study related anxiety and procrastination. Abdul has a keen interest in the role of personality in psychological health and relationship success. He also has extensive experience in working with more serious forms of mental distress, including in individuals diagnosed with psychosis.

Abdul works primarily within a cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) framework. He is also experienced in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), a specialised therapy aimed at helping individuals better manage over-whelming emotions and reduce maladaptive behaviour patterns. His approach, however, incorporates multiple therapy traditions, including psychodynamic therapy, which aims to explore the role of early-life experiences in shaping psychological development throughout the lifetime.

Using an approach that begins with a thorough understanding of presenting issues, Abdul seeks to distil complex problems into understandable wholes that can be worked through in a goal-directed manner. He strives for understanding of client issues at various levels of complexity to achieve greatest long-term therapeutic outcomes.

Abdul is fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia, and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists.
